St. John the Baptist Parish
San Juan City, Philippines
This veneration of the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno was started in 1927. The image was a gift of Sr. Manuel Dominguez to his wife, Chata, and is now being owned and cared for by the Ranjo Family, heirs of Mr. and Mrs. Jesus and Amada Ranjo. Mrs. Ranjo was a niece of Sra. Chata Dominguez.
The image of the Nazareno is housed in the San Perfecto Chapel located along San Perfecto Street, San Juan City, where Sunday masses are held, as well as other religious activities, e.g. barangay (community) Way of the Cross and Friday masses during the Lenten Season, Basic Ecclesial Community meetings, etc.
The feast of the Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno is celebrated annually every 18th of January preceded by a novena (09 Jan – 17 Jan), and a morning Mass and evening procession on the feast day. Various delegations of devotees of the Nazareno join the procession, to include the delegation from the St. John the Baptist Parish (Quiapo Church) of the City of Manila, where the original devotion to the Nazareno started, as well as those from neighboring towns (within Metropolitan Manila) and neighboring provinces (Bulacan and Laguna).
